"I can now tell the weight of a paper just by touching it!"

"I'm too busy to smile, but I'm happy."
The Intern Journal
2010 Cross-Cultural Internship Program (CCIP Summer/New York)
Last Update: 2010-04-26
The Intern Journal is a project is about giving back to the global student community. It provides an avenue for the participating students to share their experiences, show their appreciation and leave advice for others across the globe.
Students can make entries whenever they wish before and during the program. Each entry should be concise, limited to less than 300 words, and based on one of the topics: 1) cultural insights, 2) workplace tips, 3) appreciation and 4) encouragement.
See below for examples:
1) Cultural Insights: "I have seen so much! I would never have thought that the US is so full of graciousness. In the US, people always start a conversation with a greeting. I'd never see something like this in Asia. I have also found that a lot of races are living in harmony in the country, and they respect each other's culture." --- Chloe Cheah (Malaysia, intern at FUSIA Communications in 2009)
2) Workplace Tips: "I wouldn't call myself an expert but at least I was proud of my Excel skills… that is until the day when I wasted a whole stack of paper because I didn't know that I needed to specify the print area before printing. This experience made me realize how different it could be between school and practical knowledge." --- Anonymous
3) Appreciation: "I enjoyed my internship at Healthmonitor Network. It provided me the opportunity to me utilize by skills and allow me to learn new ones.
I feel very lucky for meeting my supervisor Alex, who gave me many study and career suggestions. Alex shared his experience with me about his university life which really helped because I plan to attend a graduate program in the US. His stories inspired me and made me think. I think we have a lot in common because we both have a lot of ideas but what makes us different is that he is not afraid to carry out and realize his ideas, while I always lose my interest after thinking too much." --- Xiao LIU (mainland China, intern at Healthmonitor Network in 2009)
4) Encouragement: "As cliche as it sounds: Give it your all, ultimately what you get out of that experience is how much you put into it." --- Caroline Tan (Singapore, intern at FUSIA in 2009)
