BridgeUSA (J-1 visa) provides opportunities for qualified foreign nationals to travel and gain experience in the US through a wide range of programs for periods ranging from a few weeks to several years.
BridgeUSA (J-1 visa) Professor is for foreign nationals whose primary purpose is teaching, lecturing, observing, or consulting at post-secondary accredited academic institutions, museums, libraries, or similar types of institutions.
• Not be a candidate for a tenure track position
• Not have participated in and completed a research scholar program within the last 24 months preceding the beginning date of their new program’s commencement
• Subject to the 24 month bar on repeat participation upon the conclusion of the program
• Not have participated in a J-visa program for all or part of the 12-month period immediately preceding the start date of a research scholar program unless (1) the participant is currently in a professor program and is transferring to another institution in the US to continue their current J-1 program, (2) the participant’s prior physical presence in the US on a J-visa program was less than six months in duration, or (3) the participant’s prior participation was a scholar

• Primarily teaching, lecturing, observing, or consulting at the host academic institution
• Promote the exchange of ideas, research, mutual enrichment and linkages between research and academic institutions in the US and foreign countries

• Minimum period of stay is three weeks
• Maximum 5 years (3 weeks minimum)
• Under extraordinary circumstances an additional six months may be granted

• Educational enrichment: Facilitate the exchange of ideas and research in a variety of fields between people of the United States and people of other countries
