Part 1 Travel within the US
Traveling by car

Driving laws vary by state, as do weather and road conditions. Listed below are some things to keep in mind before road trips.

• Check for weather and road conditions and weather forecast
• Check for traffic laws of different states
• Adhere to the speed limit
• Be aware of traffic laws in each state and adhere to them
• IDP is required in some states and by some car rental companies
• For long distance travel, ensure that the car has enough fuel and is in good condition
• In many states, DWI/DUI is a crime that carries severe consequences

NOTE: Most states, e.g., New York, Massachutts and California permit driving on a foreign driver’s license as long as it is in English. An IDP may nor may not be required depending on the states to drive, car rental company to rent the car, and whether the driver’s license is in English.

Part 2 Travel within the US
Joining local tours

When visiting a place, joining local tours is a good option. Many budget and time-conscious participants like to join Chinese operated tours that visit many places in a short time. They are affordable and offer travel to major cities and attractions (e.g., New York to Boston, LA to Grand Canyon and Las Vegas).

• Check comments, pricing, and other details beforehand
• Tips to drivers and tour guides are not included in pricing
• Most coach buses have internet
• Wearing seat belts is not mandated, but recommended

Part 3 Travel outside the US

While programs are ongoing, participants are allowed to travel outside the US with authorized travel validation.

After the program has ended, participants must leave the US within the 30-day grace period. Returning to the US with Form DS-2019 issued by FUSIA is not allowed. They may, however, return to the US during the grace period using ESTA or tourist B-2 visa, if available.
