How to get around?

Much like Dallas, Houston is another major Texan metropolis that boasts a formidable transportation network. Public transit in this city is managed by the regional transportation authority, METRO. The city offers bus, rail, and vanpool services to help residents get around the city. Rail services run from 4:30 am to midnight Monday – Thursday, 4:30 am to 2:20 am on Friday, 5:30 am to 2:20 am on Saturday, and 5:30 am to 11:40 am on Sunday. Bus service runs seven days a week, on an almost 24-hour basis. The timetables for each service can be found with the METRO Trip App.

One can pay the fare using several methods, including the METRO Q Fare Card, METRO Q Mobile Ticketing, METRO Day Pass, METRO Money card, or cash. The price of the basic fare is $1.25 per ride. Specific information about fares and the different payment methods can be found HERE.

Houston also has other modes of transportation available besides public transit. Being a city that depends heavily on cars, Uber/Lyft are two popular rideshare services used in the city, alongside taxi cabs. Houston is also a bike friendly city, hosting a bike rental service for residents.

Besides intercity transit, Houston is also a hub for transit to and from jurisdictions outside of its territory. The city hosts the Houston Amtrak station, which is served by the Sunset Limited line with connecting service from the Texas Eagle line. This station also hosts interstate bus travel services, such as Greyhound.
