(YK) Visiting Luna Park and Coney Island was one of the most memorable cultural experiences of my J-1 program in the United States. It gave me the opportunity to experience a historic and iconic part of New York culture that reflects American traditions of recreation, public entertainment, and community gathering. Walking along the boardwalk, seeing the amusement rides, and enjoying the lively seaside atmosphere helped me understand how places like Coney Island have remained meaningful across generations. I visited with friends, and we shared our perspectives on how this type of public leisure space compares with similar attractions in our home countries. The experience allowed me to engage with a vibrant and distinctly local side of American life beyond my internship and showed me how culture is also expressed through everyday social spaces, shared traditions, and public experiences.
